This series of paintings was created during my residency at the “Cite Des Arts” in Paris, at the moment of recognition and my need to distance and protect myself from other people’s views, in an environment where we identify ourselves as observers. Namely, the people in these paintings occupy the realm of public space, the museums of contemporary art. Museums as institutions mediate, identify and transform the imagination of the observer.
This prompted me to approach the space I was in differently, and, through a voyeuristic act, to try and understand my environment and reactions of the museum visitors present.
Having recognised that moment of observers’ identification, their surprise, astonishment, and on the other hand calmness, even indifference, I secretly photograph them, while they pose for a completely different lens.
